Joy in a Box
Joy in a Box focuses on celebrating children and their families and adding some joy and sparkle to their day. We try and reach families that are struggling to find reasons to smile. We want to come and create and atmosphere where children and families can find a way to enjoy, laugh, and smile.
How the Program Works
We bring all the fixings for a good time! We bring an activity, such as a craft, creative play, toys, etc and spend and hour playing and creating with families. Currently we visit the Agape House Mission for Women and Children once a month. It is so fun to create, play, and interact with the moms and their kids. Our goal is to give time that is dedicated to playing with the kids and leaving them smiling.
For privacy reasons, we do not have pictures of our time with the families.. but this year alone, we have thrown a big block party for a 1 year old, a hot wheels party for a 4 year old, played in a giant bubble, paper bag princess party, baby rattle making party, and many more.
This month we celebrated a sweet girl who loves Batman and the 1st birthday of a little girl who loves baby dolls. We brought a cool bowling game where you use your Batman ball to knock down the villain pins! We also brought some cute little baby dolls to play with.
Loads of toys for the girls and boys at Agape House. A HUGE thanks to the kind people at Beth Israel Synagogue for donating all these wonderful gifts!!
We’re celebrating a sweet little girl turning 2 tonight @ the Agape house party! We’re bringing play dough, a ginormous wrapped box for the kids to play in, and our digital polaroid camera w/festive accessories & wood frame ornaments for them to decorate. It’s going to be so much fun!
This month’s Agape House party we were celebrating a sweet little princess turning 1 year old! We brought her a princess crown & brought floam & the fixings to make dream globes w/glow in the dark stars. It was such a fun party!
This month we brought all of the supplies for pumpkin carving and decorating to the Agape House. We also brought battery powered tea lights for their jack-o-lanterns. The kids were so excited! They said, “Now I can have a pumpkin night light in my room!”
(Below: one of our do good gang members helped with the tedious task of cleaning out the many pumpkins that the women and children would be carving at the party.)
For the holidays in 2013, we gave the moms at the Agape House a holiday shopping spree for their kids! Thanks to Beth Israel, a local synagogue, and other donations, we were able to take them a car load of gifts to choose from!
We have also gone to Brigid Collins Family Support Center and took an activity to play with them during their family fun night.
We took these HUGE bubble wrap balls that had hidden toys inside them as you peeled away the layers. The kids LOVED it!
We are working to expand our group so we can also take our “joy” to the Lydia Place. If you’d like to help us, we could use more members! Please contact us at firstname.lastname@example.org for a Member Packet. It will describe all the ways you can choose to get involved.
